Day 4 – Dancing, Building, and Preparing for Camp
After the dancing, we moved into a time of worship and prayer. Kayla even got to be part of the worship team by playing the drum—what a special moment for her!
From there, we had introductions and assignments for the day. Our main project was working on the wall next to the new pavilion. Armed with trowels, we spread cement over a large rock wall. Let’s just say there were plenty of laughs (and a few “oopses” when the cement didn’t exactly stick where it was supposed to). Once the wall was coated, someone would smooth it out with a long board so it would be ready for plaster later.
While the girls focused on the wall, Mike joined a group of men to build cabinets for some of the rooms. It was neat to see both Mike and the Kenyan men sharing their skills and learning from each other. My assignment was more techy—I worked on getting the iPads ready to use with the robots for Saturday’s STEAM Camp.
We wrapped up with lunch, a time to debrief about the day, and then headed back to the house to clean up, eat, and begin setting up for camp.
One final note: the Blessed Link Center is located in the Kibera slum. Driving through the streets to get there was truly eye-opening. It’s an image and experience that will stay with us for a long time.
Today reminded us of the joy that comes from worship, serving alongside others, and using the unique gifts God has given each of us—whether through music, building, or technology. Each role mattered and fit together perfectly to make the day a success.
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. Colossians 3:23
